Lancashire ACF gives all its cadets of the correct age group the opportunity to participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme (D of E).
The D of E Award is run in parallel with the APC Syllabus and therefore members of the cadets get the best of both worlds because 90% of skills in the APC Syllabus counts toward their D of E.
This is a voluntary, noncompetitive program of practical, cultural and adventurous activities, designed to support the personal and social development of young people aged 14-25, regardless of gender, background or ability. It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable activities in their free time.
Award Groups are run by your own Adult Instructors. Assessors may also come from within Lancashire ACF or from the community, all of whom are keen to share their skills, enthusiasm and organising abilities to help young people reach their potential.
It is a four-Section Program with three progressive levels:
Bronze:- for those aged 14 and over.
Silver:- for those aged 15 and over.
Gold:- for those aged 16 and over.
After completion of each section, a Certificate and a Cloth Badge will be issued(as shown on the left)
The Sections involve:
Service:- Helping other people in the local community.
Expeditions:- Training for, planning and completing a journey on foot or horseback, by boat or cycle.
Skills:- Covering almost any hobby, skill or interest.
Physical Recreation:- Sport, dance and fitness.
Residential Project:- Gold Award only.
The ACF is an 'Operating Authority' within the D of E Award who purchase RECORD BOOKS from the D of E and supply them to you (you need to buy a different one for each level of Award you do).
You can also get a brilliant ENTRANCE PACK in the form of a personal organiser file containing heaps of useful info, activity log sheets, discount vouchers, an ID card, a CD-ROM 'Virtual Award Planner' to help you plan your Award.
After studying each Section of the Award and deciding what you want to do, your D of E Officer will be able to help you if you get stuck.
Use the Link at the Top of the page to view the D of E Web site and look in each Section to choose your activities.
Make a note of your plans then off you go! Remember to inform your D of E Officer as to what you're going to do, just so you don't waste any time on activities which won't count and just as important so that he or she can credit you with the skills that you pass within the APC Syllabus (Remember they run in parallel).
Make sure that the activities you choose are in the right Section - Dance, for example is a Physical Recreation Activity, not a Skill!
Be sure to complete your Record Book as you go on, getting your D of E Officer or Assessor (sports coach, music teacher, someone with specialist knowledge etc) to sign each Section off, and to keep your Detachment Commander informed.
The Record Book has space for you to fill in your personal thoughts as you go along.
Most of all... HAVE FUN!
